The Holy week or Semana Santa, another landmark among Marbella’s  cultural a ctivities, has become a religious expression – and one of great significance to people in the town.In the cosmopolitan context of this town, nine brotherhoods of the passion survive (including those of Nueva Andalucía and San Pedro Alcántara), integrated into the Association of Holy Week Brotherhoods.

Among the many events to be enjoyed in Marbella, the following merit special attention:

The romería or procession to Cruz de Juanar on May 1st, The festivals of the patron Saint Bernabé, on June 11th and of San Pedro de Alcántara on October 19th, typically Andalusian affairs with their colour and folklore.

Another festivity of great interest and one which has successfully preserved its popular, traditional flavour is Virgen del Carmen, which takes place on July 16th and features a procession down to the sea.
